Well here I am on 19th December 2011 working from home in sunny Oman with the windows open and a pleasant cool breeze wafting through the appartment. Quite a contrast to the UK where it’s freezing cold apparently!
Anyway I am working on my employer’s media issue of the day at 9am – which is a mis-splelt Christmas card – fortunately nothing to do with me – phew! Except for dealing with the media interest that is!
Apparently my employer’s last name was mispellt and sent out to thousands of people…
Christmas cards are always a bone of contention in the world of politics and public service so my advice to you is ensure they’re environmentally friendly; cost effective ; charitable (children is a safe subject); non-religious (usually!); accurate; well-targeted (ie no dead people should get one!) and you hand write them if numbers allow (ie no pre-printed signatures is preferable). Emailing a message certainly tackles the environmental and cost issues and the signature issue is solved…but you still need to be tight on the accuracy and targeting. If you do email them you could always mention that you’ll still send a donation to a charity as they do tend to lose out when hard copies aren’t sent.
There, that’s all my years of Christmas card experience in a nutshell and at no cost to you treasured family members.
So, that should be sorted in the next few hours. In the meantime Josh is still in bed. It’s now 1.40pm here. But I do know he was up late BBMing or whatever else it is he does with his clever friends.
Josh has been playing rugby with the Muscat Vets and 1st XV out here which has been great for him. They have been really welcoming and invited him back to their training sessions too. He is still recovering as last night’s session was more like an army boot camp than a rugby session! They were having to carry each other fire-fighter style and sprint the length of the pitch amongst other things. It was a really good ‘beasting’ and great fun to watch.
Joe has been involved in the production of a friend’s film back in the UK. It’s a horror film – oooh hang on; an email just came in and could be about chrimbo cards…
Ok I’m back – just an update about preparing a Christmas message for the paper…
Yeah so, Joe has been working on a horror film starring Morjana Alaoui who starred in the film voted 8th most scariest horror film of all time – Martyrs. If you are not into the usual festive fare on TV over the hols just youtube Martyrs for a bit of alternative festive fun!
Oh, just heard there was a spelling mistake on about a third of the Christmas cards but this was spotted and they were not distributed…so the plot thickens…who leaked that to the paper…duh, duh, duuuurrrr?! Not many peeps will have known the mistake was made! Is there a traitor in our midst?!
Josh has just arisen from his pit…and gone back again! (it’s about 2.30pm)
Diane’s back from school – at 3pm – and is changing her clothes because a child puked on her and she stinks..euuww!
She thinks the Christmas card traitor is a ‘saddoid’ and should ‘get a life’.
Right it’s 4.27pm and a statement has been sent to the paper regarding the cards. It does appear that none were distributed so we’ll wait and see if the paper can be bothered to even print it as a story. If they do they’ll want to know more details about how much they cost; who paid for them etc, etc…either way that’ll keep me busy tomorrow for the morning at least. (Will try and tempt them to take a Chrimbo message from my employer instead of printing the card story. Might work.)
Made spag bol for tea tonight and re-heated a sauce from last night. Josh was upset that there was no meat in it.
Right, that’s all from me folks.
Have a great hols everyone and Murry Chrustmas and Hapy New Yerr!
