It began as a late night chat whilst having drinks at a bar in Sydney, when the conversation turned to what this year’s Family Diary should be and someone suggested a Fitness Challenge. To be honest some of us were sceptical and said outright it will never work and that no one will want to participate, whilst others were really keen and eager to get the challenge started. Like all good ideas the majority ruled and so the challenge was set, rules agreed and Team’s decided.
We had no idea how this was going to unfold and it was hard to believe that those who were totally against any form of exercise, had a phobia about joining a gym or believed that moving faster than snails pace was totally unnecessary. It turned out that they would be the ones who would take the challenge to the extreme and participate with more enthusiasm than it was ever thought possible! There were meal plans going back and forth, exercise programs drawn up, whatsapp chats across multiple time zones with tips on boxing or how to avoid red faces when exercising, Iphone Apps downloaded and skype sessions with family members all wanting to join in with Bring Sally Up. It was phenomenal and totally unexpected!
To say that this Challenge is an amazing success is an understatement, it achieved so much in so many ways and in such a short time frame. We raised money for our favourite charity, it inspired individuals to join in when they had been in complete denial about health and fitness and amongst many other things it was a great opportunity for family and friends to celebrate Cal’s 30th birthday party with a group boxing session.
The stories and photographs speak for themselves and it is clear that everyone who took on this challenge or motivated others is a winner. Although it is the end of this years challenge, it is anticipated that most of you will continue to strive for better health and fitness long after the last diary entry is read!
